Why should the kids have all the fun when it comes to back-to-school? There may be nothing we love more than expanding our minds and our palates and could not be more excited for the opportunity to learn about Comté, the King of Alpine Cheeses, by two women who know more than we could ever dream of, Jessica Beer and Jess Perrie. Jessica Beer most of you already know, love and idolize for her depth of knowledge and understanding of the world of cheese. Cured has been lucky enough to have Jess as our manager for the last 5 years and I can truly say one of the best parts of our job is her contagious enthusiasm and boundless knowledge of all things cheese. This summer Jess had the opportunity to travel around Europe with Essex Cheese, a boutique importer that specializes in finding excellent renditions of classic European cheeses. Jess will be joined by Jess Perrie from Essex Cheese and together they will guide us through the incredible world of Comté; how it is made, what makes the Essex Comtés stand out, and what to drink alongside these alpine beauties (a perfect bit of knowledge for the approaching fall and winter).We will taste through several different Comté profiles so you can experience first hand the nuances of terroir, alpage, and aging while exploring (and drinking!) several different wines from the Jura.
